Indian Hockey Squad For Men’s World Cup 2023: Every four years, the world’s best hockey teams gathers in a bid to be crowned the world’s best, the champions. This time, these teams and these men are making their way to Odisha, India, to compete in the World Cup, Hockey’s most prestigious competition.

On Friday, India will kick off their FIH Hockey World Cup campaign against Spain. The Indian squad of 18 players is currently preparing for the Opening MATCH on January 13th. Harmanpreet Singh has been named captain of the Indian team, with Amit Rohidas serving as his deputy for the world championship. Aside from Spain, England and Wales are also members of India’s group.

The Men’s Hockey World Cup will return for its 15th edition on January 13th, 2023, with India hosting the event for the fourth time.

The tournament will be co-hosted by two cities in the state of Odisha from January 13th  to 29th. The Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, where the matches were held last year, will be joined by Rourkela, where the matches will be held at the new, purpose-built Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium.

Harmanpreet Singh will captain India’s men’s hockey World Cup squad, as the country hopes to end a 47th -year wait. The pool-stage matches will be split between Rourkela and Bhubaneswar, with the crossover matches taking place solely in Bhubaneswar. The matches for the ninth through sixteenth places will be held in Rourkela, while the quarterfinals, semifinals, bronze-medal match, and final will be held in Bhubaneswar.

Format of the Hockey World Cup

Four groups were formed from the 16 teams.

Each team in its pool will play the other three teams once, with the pool winner advancing to the quarterfinals.

The teams ranked second and third in each pool will compete in crossover matches to determine the final four quarterfinalists.

The semifinals will take place on January 27th  and the final will take place on January 29th.
