A private romantic phone conversation between a young couple has recently gone viral on social media in Odisha, sparking widespread discussion and debate among netizens. The audio clip, which surfaced on messaging platforms and rapidly spread across Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram reels, has become a trending topic across the state.
While the identities of the couple have not been officially confirmed, the voices in the call are believed to belong to a pair of college students from a prominent educational institution in Cuttack. In the clip, the couple can be heard exchanging affectionate words and teasing each other playfully. Though the conversation appears harmless and intimate, its unauthorized circulation has raised serious concerns about privacy and cyber ethics.
The viral clip has drawn mixed reactions from the public. Many social media users found the call entertaining or “cute”, while others criticized the breach of privacy and the increasing trend of sharing personal content without consent. Hashtags like #CoupleCallOdisha and #RespectPrivacy have been trending on Twitter (X), reflecting the divided opinions.
Experts in digital law have warned against sharing such private content. “Recording or distributing someone’s personal conversations without their knowledge is a clear violation of the IT Act and right to privacy,” said advocate S.K. Mishra, a Bhubaneswar-based cyber law specialist.
Student bodies and youth organizations have also voiced their support for the couple. “Today it’s them, tomorrow it could be anyone. We must stand against such violations of digital ethics,” said Rituparna Das, a student leader at Utkal University.
The police cyber cell is reportedly investigating the origin of the leak and may take action against those responsible for its circulation.
As Odisha continues to grapple with growing internet penetration and social media influence, incidents like this highlight the urgent need for stronger digital awareness and cyber hygiene—especially among the youth.
