National e-governance Award
Speakers called for greater public awareness about e-governance to provide corruption-free and more efficient administration in the government system. Apart from making government officials computer au fait it is essential to enhance awareness among people about this.

The 10th National Conference on e-governance was organized by the Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances and Information Technology Ministries of Government India and the Information Technology Department of Madhya Pradesh the conference witnessed the highest ever attendance here on February 2 and 3.

As many as 1350 delegates are participating in it.

Chief Minister Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister of State Suresh Pachouri and others said that Information Technology (IT) to be used in the best interest of the masses.

Mr.Pachouri released the E-readiness Assessment Report on the status of e-governance on the occasion. He also presented 14 awards for outstanding contribution in five sectors of Information Technology. Among others he presented the Odisha Primary Education Project Authority (OPEPA)’s Website www.opepa.in as the Best Government Website. OPEPA State Project Director Madhu Sudan Padhi received the Bronze Icon trophy. Odisha Information Technolgy (IT) Secretary S N Tripathy and IT Director Vishal Dev was also present. Union Minister for State for Personnel Mr. Pachouri said e-governance basically means reaching information and services to the people through the use of Information Technology (IT).

He said that the Central Government has sanctioned national e-governance scheme for far reaching development of e-governance in the country. The Rs. 3300 crore scheme would change the socio-economic scenario in the country, especially rural areas. Special Secretary in the Union Ministry of IT Chandra Shekhar informed that along with the e-governance scheme the Central Government has sanctioned 27 missions to provide services and facilities to the people with the cooperation of state government and local bodies. People would begin to benefit from these by March 2008.

The departments of Central and State Governments are being linked to block level through broadband service of Internet. Under this, IT Centers would be set up in rural areas and every centre would cover three villages to provide different services and information to the people. Additional Secretary in the Union Ministry of Personnel and public Grievances Rahul Sarin proposed a vote of thanks. Later Mr.Sarin appreciated the Odisha IT department's efforts to popularise the e-governance system in the state.
